The Book thief is narrated by Death, who tells us the story
of Liesel Meminger. It’s January 1939 and Liesel came to little town Molching
to live with her foster parents Hans and Rosa Huberman. Her brother Werner
died, and on his burial she stole The Grave Digger’s Handbook but she didn’t
know how to read. Her foster father liked her and thought her to read. She
stole her second book The Shoulder Shrug, from the burning pile of books. Books
burning are organized to celebrate Adolph Hitler’s birthday. Now when she can
read and write she found out that Nazis are responsible for her parents and her
brother deaths and she hates Hitler. She made friend with Max a Jew, Hans was
hiding in his home and mayor’s wife Ilsa Hermann. She was borrowing and
stealing books from her. Ilsa gave her a blank book, and Liesel begins writing
the story of her life, called The Book Thief. She was writing in the basement
and she was doing this when Himmel Street was bombed. Everybody she loves died
while they were sleep. In despair over their deaths Liesel droped the book but
it was picked up by Death. Liesel , as he’s taking her soul away from her body.
